SIMPLE ONLINE BUSINESS COURSE 4.2 | M - Market Your Expertise Pt. 2

(the text in this lesson is from my Mini Book the Simple Online Business Model. If you’d like a full copy you can grab it from Amazon)

Curate

The internet houses a paralyzing mountain of information. With eleven million creators on LinkedIn alone, who should your audience be listening to? What should they be aware of? What platforms should they know?

You can answer their questions by curating, researching, and sharing the results.

Here are three examples of things you can curate:

  • Concepts

  • Creators

  • Channels

By sharing lists, graphics, links, images, and videos about each of these, you have an unlimited number of topics to talk about.

Concepts

People are curious beings. Hint to an interesting concept, and your reader will be engaged. If you share ideas, theories, or methodologies helpful to your ideal customer, you’ll spur your readers to follow you.

The concepts you share don’t have to be your own. In step 2, you chose several industry experts to follow. Now, you select the best ideas from their content to curate. The resulting posts save your followers time—they don’t have to dig for information themselves.

Example: “10 Visuals That Will Change the Way You Think”

If you take work out of your customers’ hands, you’ll add value to their lives.

Creators

Everybody’s looking for people to learn from. So, curating lists and content around creators in your niche is an effective way to grow.

Posts like

“Here are the top 20 Experts on [Insert Your Niche] You Should Be Following,”

and

“Top 5 People You Should Follow If You Want to Build an Online Business on LinkedIn”

often perform better than creating your own content.

Why?

Because if creators see you acknowledge their work, they will often acknowledge you. This tells their following—and the social media algorithms—that you are worth a look. It increases the number of eyeballs that hit your post.

Bundle five, ten, or a hundred influencers in a list, and you’ll create a post that has the potential to go viral.

Platforms

The same is true for platforms—but for different reasons.

I did a post that shared the “Top # of Ted Talks That Will Transform Your Life in Under Eleven Minutes,” and the results were staggering. I gave my followers value by telling them where to find the good stuff, saving them time and effort. And by focusing on one platform or type of content, you bring a fresh perspective to your curated lists.

The following platforms offer hosts of resources:

  • Facebook

  • LinkedIn

  • Instagram

  • TikTok

  • YouTube

  • Ted Talks

  • Udemy

  • Substack

  • Podcasts

  • News Outlets

  • Medium

  • Quora

  • Any website that produces content

There are endless ideas for curation. The only things holding you back are your imagination and the effort you’re willing to spend.

Create

Trust is crucial for any business interaction. Without it, your prospect’s wallet will remain zipped. If you create your own content and pack it with your original ideas, your followers will believe you have what they need.

Commenting and curating make people aware you exist. But creating wins them over for your business.

While writing your first post might be nerve-racking, it’s no big deal. If you’ve been consuming and curating other people’s posts, you know what good content looks like.

Original work typically are one of these types of posts:

  • Frameworks

  • Resources

  • Experiences (or stories)

I’ll break down each of them.
